Workers Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a tax credit that was established coming out of World War II to incent employers to hire veterans coming home from war. It has evolved over the decades to include 10 target groups including felons and students coming out of school, to name a few. The credit gives employers up to a $9,600 tax credit per new hire, not position. At a 20% effective tax rate, that would mitigate $48,000 of tax basis owed.
It takes about 3 months for a full-time employee to qualify for their entire credit. So if someone leaves and you have to replace them, you are eligible for another $9,600 credit. To see how much you qualify for CLICK HERE.
